Nissan is a Japanese automaker that was established in 1933, although its roots go back to 1914, when Masujiro Hashimoto established Kaishinasha Motor Vehicle Works, Japan’s very first vehicle manufacturer. Nissan began to expand around the world into the 1950s and developed a U.S. subsidiary in 1958. By 1970, Nissan was one of the world’s biggest exporters of autos with impressive sales of both Nissan and Datsun cars. In 1999, due to financial troubles, Nissan went into an alliance with Renault. The collaboration resulted in sharing of platforms and engines in between the brand names. Mitsubishi signed up with the alliance in 2016. Nissan also operates Infiniti, a luxury brand, and restored Datsun as an economical brand name in 2013. Nissan’s alliance with Renault and Mitsubishi is among the biggest on the planet, competing with Volkswagen Group and Toyota Motor Corp to lead in global automobile sales.
